2013 SAG Awards

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

Here are some pictures from the 2013 SAG Awards. This past SAG Awards has been our 15th year working on the show and our tenth year working with Greco Decor.

Vitalie Taittinger of Taittinger Champagne helped open the 2013 SAG Awards.

Our florist, CJ Matsumoto, did a spectacular job with the table flowers and James Beard Award winning chef, Suzanne Goin, provided us with a delicious anti-pasta plate for this year's SAG Awards.

In addition to Taittinger Champagne at all of the tables, our guests at the 2013 SAG Awards enjoyed Gallo Signature Wines and Fiji Water.

We start production each year for the SAG Awards in August and work through the fall and full-time in January to provide our guests with a beautiful room to enjoy the show.

Finally, returning again for the third year to the 2013 SAG Awards, was Graff Diamonds (greenroom sponsor). Fendi Casa provided the incredible greenroom furniture.

A huge thanks to everyone for their support and excellent work on this year's SAG Awards and to James Sequenzia for providing the photos.

SAG Awards Production by a Los Angeles Event Planner

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

As a Los Angeles event planner, I know what it takes to put together an event, especially a high-profile sit-down dinner for over a thousand A-List Hollywood guests.  You need to keep a party planning checklist and stick to it. That is what I did for this year’s SAG Awards as well as the previous 13 SAG Awards I have coordinated.

We start the SAG Awards event production in the summer with designing the menu with our chef, Suzanne Goin of Lucques Catering. We work with Suzanne to create a tasty menu that appeals to all palates including vegans and vegetarians.

The next step as a Los Angeles event planner is to discuss the table top decor with our designer Keith Greco. We research different looks and test out different tableware until the perfect look is found and presented to the SAG Awards Committee.

Once the look of the table and the food is selected, then the party planning checklist comes into play. It is important to create a specific timeline for load-in, follow up with vendors to ensure they have the correct equipment coming to the event and then supervise each day’s set-up on site to make sure everything is going to plan.

The party planning checklist extends to every element of the interior of the room such as the amount of chairs set at each table, the quantity of wine, water and champagne poured as well as the tiniest details such as how the napkin is folded!

Other details we have down on our party planning checklist is which guest receives a vegan plate, the number of glassware, dishware and silverware to order for that evening, the amount of flower arrangements on the table, etc. The list is pages long!

At A Wynning Event, we produce all types of events from non-profit to corporate as well as social but as a Los Angeles event planner, the SAG Awards is by the far the most exciting!

Here are some inside pictures from the 18th Annual SAG Awards.

We start production for the SAG Awards a week in advance and by show day, it all comes together for a beautiful night honoring the work of the acting community.

The red carpet at the SAG Awards is opened with a toast from Taittinger Champagne. This year, Vitalie Taittinger stepped out of a life-sized Taittinger bottle to help open the red carpet.

More to come soon on this year’s SAG Awards.

One of the SAG Awards® Dinner Party Recipes

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Each year at the SAG Awards®, we serve our A-List Hollywood guests an anti-pasta plate of food that has four mini-courses on it.  Here is one of the delicious dinner party recipes we served at this year’s SAG Awards®. This arugula salad recipe also appeared in the January 20th edition of People Magazine®.

Arugula Salad Recipe (serves 6)

4 large blood oranges
½ (5oz) package fresh arugula
15 large dried dates, pitted and halved
¼ lb. Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, shaved
3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
Kosher salt
Fresh ground black pepper

  1. Peel the oranges and remove the white pith and then slice the oranges into ¼” pinwheels.
  2. Scatter half of the arugula on a large platter.  Arrange half of the oranges, dates and cheese over greens.  Repeat using remaining ingredients.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil.  Sprinkle lightly with Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper.

At the SAG Awards®, we served this arugula salad recipe with an herbed crostini.  A crostini is a nice accompaniment to any plate and is easy to make and serve along with other dinner party recipes you may offer your guests.

Herbed Crostini (serves 6)

6 baguette slices, cut into pieces 8” long and ¼” thick
3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
6 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2 tsp. fresh thyme leaves
1 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.  Then, brush both sides of the bread slices with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. (You may want to place parchment paper on top of the baking sheet to help the bread bake evenly.)
  2. Combine the cheese and herbs and sprinkle mixture evenly over the bread.  Bake for 7 to 8 minutes until crisp and golden.  Serve as a whole crostini on the top of or to the side of the salad.

Other items created by Suzanne Goin for this year’s SAG Awards® that were served to our guests were a king salmon with cucumbers, yogurt and ginger mint chutney, beluga lentils with carrots, pine nuts and feta and a slow-roasted lamb with chickpeas, black olives and feta salsa verde.  We served Dry Creek Vineyard wines (our red wine was created especially for the SAG Awards®), Voss water and Taittinger Champagne.

I hope you can use this arugula salad recipe created for the SAG Awards® as one of your dinner party recipes for your next special event or party.  Until next time, remember the Budget Bash mantra: make it simple, stylish, fun and economical to all!

Event Coordination for the 17th Annual SAG Awards®

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

It’s hard to believe that we are already starting event coordination for one of the premiere red carpet events in Los Angeles, the 17th Annual SAG Awards®.  Special event planning for this event usually starts about six months out and we are right on target.

One important aspect of all red carpet events is the food, and I am excited to say that today we had our initial tasting at Lucques who will once again cater the event.  Part of the task of special event planning is to review with the caterer the parameters of the food served at the event and then of course, taste it.  I know, it’s a tough job.

Sorry I can’t reveal more right now about our event coordination for the 17th Annual SAG Awards® but I will as we progress throughout the months.  It is an honor for us to once again be a part of one of the most prestigious red carpet events here in Los Angeles.  We are delighted to work with a team of special event planning experts and together make this event a magical evening for the attending guests.

Until next time, remember the Budget Bash mantra: make it simple, delicious, stylish, fun & economical to all!
